Important Note for Charter Sponsors Regarding Dedication Weekend Celebrations

The Air Force Memorial will be officially dedicated and given to the nation by the Air Force Memorial Foundation during an onsite ceremony on Saturday, October 14, 2006. On Wednesday, June 21, all charter sponsors will receive an official invitation to attend the planned dedication weekend events. The correspondence includes a letter from Memorial Foundation President, Maj. General (Ret) Ed Grillo, along with a request to return your completed RSVP by no later than July 25.
The Foundation is expecting 10,000 - 20,000 visitors to the Air Force Memorial site during the dedication weekend celebrations. Given the magnitude of the event, the Foundation asks that Charter Sponsors planning to attend begin to finalize their travel plans. Currently we are working with the Arlington, Virginia Convention and Visitors Service to establish a listing of hotels in the area with special rates for our Charter Sponsors. The public is invited to participate in the dedication weekend celebrations and attend the USAF Open House on Saturday, October 14, a special event kicking-off the Air Force 60th Anniversary Commemoration – “Heritage to Horizons: Commemorating 60 Years of Air and Space.” The day will feature a fly-over by the Thunderbirds and an aerial review of aircraft from World War One through the current era. The event also includes entertainment, music, food and interactive exhibits and displays of Air Force equipment and aircraft. Performances by the USAF Drill Team and the Air Force Band, along with a celebrity entertainer, will be highlights of the day.
Dedication weekend activities continue on Sunday, October 15, with a Memorial service to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for America. This service will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial site.
