Socrates Roussos
(New Castle, PA)
|
| Tribute left by: |
Bob Nay (Jacksonville, FL) |
| Uncle Socs was a flight engineer on a B24 in the Pacific during WW2. He is what I would call one of the silent warriors who didn't talk about his service much. However he was proud of his country and service-like many others. He was a good uncle, father( he was like a father to me also), husband, teacher, coach, and friend to all. It is the way he led his life that makes him my Air Force hero. |

Mike Bell (Joplin, MO) |
| Capt. Button (1964-97) serving as a pilot with the 355th Fighter Wing went down mysteriously on 2 Apr 97 flying his fully armed A-10 Warthog into the mountains of Colorado near Gold Dust Peak. The death was ruled a suicide, there being no other explanation due to his outstanding character of prior service.

| Capt. Birch (1918-1945) served from 1942-45 as an OSS Intelligence Officer with the 14th Air Force in China. A few days after VJ day he was executed by Chinese Communists near Xi'an for refusing to surrender his sidearm. He is considered by many to be the first American martyr of the Cold War. Little more than a decade after his death the John Birch Society was founded.

| My Hero has and always will be my Father Kenneth Edward Young. Dad served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force at Lackland AFB in Texas and Brookley AFB in Mobile Alabama. All I do now for the Veterans of The USA is because of my father. Dad would have loved the Air Force Memorial. He was very patriotic. I love and miss you dad. Always on my mind forever in my heart.
